A baggy fit changes the whole silhouette of an outfit, so it pays to balance it: pair it with a top that is fitted or that finishes at the hip, and with a shoe that has some bulk to it. Raw denim jeans

The Raw Denim Jeans at £95 start stiff and dark. Over weeks and months of wear they soften and fade along the creases of how you move, so no two pairs end up looking the same. If you enjoy the idea of a pair of jeans that becomes more yours over time, raw denim is the one. If you want jeans that are comfortable from the first wear, choose a washed pair instead.

Cargo, camo and twill

The Utility Cargo Pant at £100 is built for practicality, with extra pockets and a workwear feel that pairs well with a hoodie or a workwear jacket. The Camo Pant at £95 brings pattern to the lower half of an outfit, so keep the top plain when you wear it. The Cotton Twill Pant in tan, at £85, is the smartest piece here and works with a knit or a collared shirt when denim feels too casual.

Getting the proportions right

With relaxed and baggy fits, the length matters as much as the waist. Too long and the hem bunches heavily over the shoe; too short and the relaxed shape looks accidental. Choosing your size

• Stay with your usual waist size. Baggy jeans are designed to be roomy, and sizing down loses the shape.
• Measure the inside leg of a pair you already own and compare it with the product page before you order.
• Raw denim can give slightly at the waist as it is worn in, so a snug first fit is normal.

Care

Wash jeans inside out on a cool cycle and as rarely as you comfortably can, because each wash takes a little colour with it. With raw denim, many people wait several weeks before the first wash so the fades set in. Hang all trousers to dry rather than tumble drying.
