Crew knits or zip knits

A crew neck knit is the easy option. It goes over a tee on its own, or over a collared shirt when you want something a little sharper, and it sits neatly under a denim or workwear jacket. The Grey Knit, the Knit Navy and the Green Knit are simple places to start.

A zip knit works more like a light jacket. The Full Zip Knit and the Zip Knit, in black and in grey marl, can be worn open over a tee on a mild day and zipped up when it gets colder, which makes them one of the most useful pieces in the range for the in-between months.

Logo, stripe and rugby knits

If you want the knit to carry the outfit, the logo knits bring the branding forward, with the Star Logo Knit and the logo knit in black and green at £65. The Stripe Knit in black is the most affordable piece in the category and adds a bit of pattern without shouting. The Rugby Polo Knit in chocolate, at £45, crosses a knit with a polo collar, so it looks smart enough for an evening out while staying comfortable.

Why texture matters

A knit adds something a sweatshirt cannot: texture. Next to flat cotton and denim, a ribbed or brushed surface gives an outfit depth, even when every colour in it is plain. That is why a grey knit over black jeans looks finished, when a grey sweatshirt with the same jeans can look like you have not made an effort. The Brushed Knit in green takes this furthest, with a soft, slightly fuzzy finish.

How to style knitwear

Knits pair naturally with denim. Try a crew knit with baggy jeans and a pair of chunky trainers, or a zip knit open over a white tee with jeans and pants. Care

Knitwear lasts far longer with gentle care. Wash on a cool, gentle cycle or by hand, then dry flat on a towel. Never hang a wet knit, because the weight of the water stretches it out of shape, and fold knits for storage rather than putting them on hangers.
